Accredited by the Romanian College of Physicians with 18 CME credits and endorsed by EAES, this hands-on course is dedicated to residents in general surgery, gynecology and urology, with minimal to none experience in laparoscopic surgery.

During this event, the participants:
- will learn principles of laparoscopic surgery, including the fundamentals of laparoscopic imaging, ergonomy and safety in the operating room, as well as basic facts regarding laparoscopic equipment and safe use of surgical energy;
- will be instructed how to create pneumoperitoneum safely;
- will be trained in camera navigation to achieve optimal images;
- will develop practical laparoscopic skills including object grasping and manipulation, bimanual and hand-eye coordination, cutting, clipping, use of endo-loop and endo-bag, insertion of objects to and their extraction from the abdominal cavity, tissue handling, laparoscopic needle manipulation, suturing and knot tying;
- will learn basics of teamwork and communication in the operating room;
- will gain knowledge about incidents and adverse events in laparoscopic surgery

This course includes some theoretical lectures, videos and discussions, but its primary focus is on the extensive hands-on training under the direct guidance of the course faculty, lead by the EAES expert Assoc. Prof. Marek Soltes, MD., PhD. Hon. FEBS/MIS.

At the end of this event participants will be more confident to start their career in minimally invasive surgery by mastering the practical basic skills necessary to do so. The course includes assessment module in which the newly developed skills are compared to the validated benchmarks. Successful participants will obtain the certificate that is recognized by the UEMS for the UEMS MIS exam (eligibility criteria, section D2: hands-on training – basic skills course).

Surgical Training Institute organizes, under the aegis of ARCE, the workshop "Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy for Breast Cancer and Melanoma".

Accredited by the Romanian College of Physicians with 12CME credits, this hands-on workshop is addressed to resident physicians and specialists in general surgery, gynecology, specialized in oncological surgery, having interest in the modern (diagnostic and therapeutic) approach of neoplasia.

This workshop comprises live surgical demonstrations, theoretical lectures, video presentations, case discussions, practice on model and functional tissues. The attendants will perform the tracer injection techniques (ICG, PaternBlue) and the techniques for identification / dissection / excision of sentinel lymph nodes on functional tissues.

At the end of the 2 days, the attendants:
- will learn about the role of this surgical method in the staging and treatment of breast neoplasm and melanoma, of gynecological and gastrointestinal neoplasms;
- will have the necessary knowledge for interpreting the histopathological results of the sentinel lymph node analysis and how it influences the treatment of the oncological condition;
- will have the necessary knowledge for establishing the indication and contraindication of this diagnostic method;
- will have the necessary knowledge for choosing the right tracer to identify the sentinel lymph nodes in the staging of skin, gynecological or gastrointestinal neoplasms;
- will practice the maneuvers for identifying the anatomical areas, injected with the radioactive tracer, and the sentinel lymph nodes presenting radioactive load;
- will practice the maneuvers for ICG injection, for classical or laparoscopic identification and dissection of the sentinel lymph nodes;
- will have the necessary knowledge for the application of sentinel lymph node excision protocols (indication, patient preparation, operative technique, postoperative care);
- will learn about the accidents and incidents that may occur during the surgical intervention for the biopsy of the sentinel lymph node.

At the end of the workshop you will be more confident in your possibilities and your practical skills concerning the application of elementary detection and biopsy techniques of the sentinel lymph node and you will be able to start using this modern diagnostic method applicable mainly to breast cancer and melanoma surgery, but with indications in other kind of neoplasia too.
