Techniques for Detection of Sentinel Lymph Node in Breast Cancer

Period: 07.11.2019 - 08.11.2019

The workshop, accredited by the Romanian College of Physicians, is addressed to resident physicians and specialists in general surgery, gynecology, specialized in oncology surgery, with an interest in the modern (diagnosis and therapeutic) approach of neoplasia. The workshop includes live surgeries, theoretical lectures, video presentations, case discussions, practical exercises on the dummy and functional tissues. Participants will perform the tracer injection techniques (ICG, PaternBlue) and the techniques for identifying / dissecting / exiting the sentinel lymph on functional tissues. At the end of the workshop participants: - will have knowledge of the role of this surgical method in the staging and treatment of breast and melanoma neoplasm, gynecological and gastrointestinal neoplasms; - will have the necessary knowledge to interpret the histopathological results of the sentinel ganglion analysis and how they influence the treatment of the oncological condition; - have the knowledge necessary to establish the indication and the contraindication of this diagnostic method; - will have the necessary knowledge to choose the appropriate tracer for identifying the sentinel nodes in the staging of cutaneous, gynecological or gastrointestinal neoplasms; - will practice maneuvers to identify the anatomical areas injected with the radioactive tracer and the radioactive sentinel nodes; - practice ICG injection, identification and dissection, by classical or laparoscopic route, of the sentinel lymph nodes; - will have the necessary knowledge to apply the sentinel lymph node excision protocols (indication, patient training, operative technique, postoperative care); - Have knowledge of accidents and incidents during sentinel ganglion biopsy surgery. At the end of the course they will be more confident in their practical possibilities and practical skills to apply the elementary biopsy and biopsy techniques of the sentinel ganglion. Also, they will be able to start using this modern diagnostic method applicable mainly to breast cancer and melanoma but with indications and in other neoplasias.
